Typical Gravity Sampling Devices
1950 Gravity Sampling Plate

This illustration shows a typical 1950 Gravity Sampling plate generally used with a pressure pad to catch gravity fed pore water migration from the surface. Please remember that their are a number of other configurations for gravity sampling indicated below. Each meets a specific need.

The 1950 Sampling Plate is a convenient way to sample via an undercut in the soil profile and capture migrating pore water from surface irrigation, rain or other watering event. Generally used with a inflated inter tube to position the plate directly above the area of sampling interest. Inexpensive and highly adaptable to a number of simple sampling situations. The 1925 is a unique application for insertion at 45 degrees to catch pore water at depth by gravity alone. It has grooves cut a 45 degree angle so that when inserted those grooves catch water percolating through the soil profile. The 1960 Sampler is as simple as it gets with a screened catch bucket for placement in a profile slot with tubing connections to pull sample from an overburden of soil, leafs, etc.
