Onsite Septic System Construction: Onsite septic systems need to be made at the soil layer (horizon) that has the most permeability.


 

In-house measurements. Many companies or research organisations need to perform soil hydraulic conductivity measurements on site and where usually expert work force and instruments are very limited. Chameleon System is a complete kit that comes with a user-friendly software and a step-by-step Quick Start Guide. Main Features: 

1. Falling Head and Constant Head Methods. There are two methods for measuring Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity. Chameleon software is capable of performing both methods automatically.

 

 

2. Versatile and Adoptable. We have designed Chameleon to provide maximum flexibility and comfort. Therefore it is easily possible to use Chameleon components to create customized systems based on different needs. For example it is possible to position the soil core in vertical or horizontal directions; or direct water fellow upward or downward through soil core; or elevate the reservoir; or use reservoirs with different diameters, etc. It is even possible to replace the soil core or other standard components of Chameleon with custom-made components. Chameleon software application is capable of accommodating the modifications and perform automated measurements.

3. Fully Automated. Chameleon comes with a great software application. The software application performs readings, creates reading graphs, records data and performs related calculations. Chameleon software covers all measurement methods. 

4. Scalable. Up to 20 Chameleon units can be connected to a single computer (PC). Each unit has a dedicated window (form) on your PC screen. This makes it very easy to manage several units at the same time.

What are the applications of an automated Darcy system? Since Darcy's Law is a fundamental concept in soil physics, any soil physics laboratory needs to have a Darcy system for measuring soil hydraulic conductivity or for education purposes. The Chameleon System has serious applications in agricultural research, irrigation projects, watershed management studies, constructions projects (buildings, roads, dams, etc.), sewer system design, waste water reservoir facilities, land fill sites, mining sites, gas and oil excavation and practically any branch of research or industry dealing with liquid percolation through soil profile.

VIDEO: Saturating Soil Cores using Chameleon System 

Saturating a soil sample can be a messy and tricky process. It seems impossible to get rid of all bubbles in the system. Also transferring saturated samples to the measuring setup (e.g. Tempe Cell, tension table or pressure extractor) can be messy, difficult and risky. Despite their fancy appearance, most soil-core retainer setups just hide the “ bubble trouble.” In other words, since they are not transparent, you would not be able to see the bubbles in the system; so you assume that everything is fine! But remember, “ Whatever can go wrong, WILL go wrong!” 

 

Watch our instructional video and see how easy it is to perform a bubble-less soil-core saturation using Chameleon System. Almost all the components used in Chameleon System are transparent. Once you've saturated your sample, you can measure the Perculation Rate and Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity (Ksat).
