TDR is a way to accurately determine the water content in a concrete mix wand with dedicated waveguides within the structure at pour will show how and in what manner the concrete setup - cured and reached a stable "dry" condition in the field.
Concrete and Trase TDR with curing profiles and graphs (.pdf 1.2mb)

On the left you see a typical test made using Trase TDR of a concrete pour. The box form contained some 6-8 cu. Ft. of Concrete. On the upper left is a typical "coated" (green center rod) waveguide that can be buried to any depth within a concrete pour. In the test case we used 3 of these units in making TDR measurements as well as taking the temperature of the mix as it cured. In the following graphs you will see a typical waveform generated by a Trase TDR as it reads the volumetric moisture content of the mix as it cures.
As the mix is monitored over a 2 week period from initial cure to long term drying after the cure, one can precisely determine volumetric water that is used in the curing process, the exothermic reactions, depletion of free water and finally the water as it is withdrawn slowly by nature drying processes.
One can see the direct benefits in monitoring a concrete pour from start to long term finish, the complete interactions of the curing process. There are very few other technologies that provide this vital data. Certainly a slump test can be used but it's like measuring the thickness of paper with a ruler rather than a micrometer. If your interests are in assuring a precise and repeatable batch of mix, or in seeing the full curing of a pour cycle Trase TDR can fit the bill.
Let us know what and how you'd like to use TDR in monitoring your specific needs in cement and concrete work and we'll find a solution to meet those requirements.
